Our Newest Permanent Exhibit
Right now, inside every leaf around you, green plants are capturing sunlight energy and using it to change small parts of air and water into sugar. The sugar produced by plants is used by plants. It also provides us with the energy we need to live and grow and is the basis for all the plant products we use everyday, including food, fibers, fuel, medicine and building materials. Using over 2000 plants, 200 tons of stone, and a wrap-around sound system to create four environments, the new permanent exhibit, Sugar from the Sun, at the Garfield Park Conservatory, illuminates the fascinating process of photosynthesis and allows visitors to experience, first hand, the beauty and power of plants.

Life on Earth depends on green plants. Life on Earth depends on sugar from the sun.

100 Years and Still Growing!
Garfield Park Conservatory – which first opened its doors to the public in April 1908 – celebrates 100 years of innovation and botanical contributions to the city and its visitors with year-long events, activities, shows, and programs in 2008, all themed CHICAGOASIS: The Greenest Show on Earth.

Please join us this summer for our many birthday events, including art festivals that feature ethnic, folk, jazz, and blues musicians, dance troops, and visual artists. Public Transportation
Think Green! Take the CTA Green Line to the Conservatory-Central Park Drive station. The station is just steps away from the Garfield Park Conservatory.

Automobile
Take the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290). Exit at Independence Boulevard (Exit 26A) and travel north. Turn right (east) onto Washington Boulevard. Turn left (north) onto Central Park Avenue. Travel two blocks north past the Garfield Park Golden Dome and Lake Street public transit line. The Conservatory is on the west side of the street at 300 N Central Park Avenue.
